Art — Industry Standards
Shayne’s practice moves between photography and writing, shaped by the perspective and access gained from over a decade inside elite sport. Through emotionally raw visual and narrative language, she explores discipline, desire, shame, grief, pride, and devotion within cultures of high performance.
Industry Standards
Industry Standards is an ongoing body of work documenting the stories of elite horse-and-rider pairs across multiple geographies, training environments, and competitive contexts. It is a study of what that devotion looks like across cultures, mentalities, and dynamics.
This work also arrives at a specific moment for the sport. Equestrian sport is currently facing one of its most heightened periods of public tension, as trust between the public and the discipline has been shaken by recent scrutiny over animal welfare. This is precisely where the work's access and honesty matter most: a credible witness from inside the sport, at the exact moment one is most needed.
Industry Standards asks a public that has only ever watched from the stands to sit with what devotion actually costs: the discipline, the pressure, the emotion, the years spent making effort look effortless. It exists because that story has never been told in full, and because the athletes and animals carrying it are held to an increasingly pressurized industry standard they must clear if they are to go on pursuing their craft at the highest level.
